THE UNIVERSITY & CULTURAL FUND

A call for proposals for 2009-2010 programs occurred during the Spring 2009 semester.  The next funding cycle will occur in Spring 2010.  Please expect further information about the Spring funding timeline and process at the beginning of January 2010.

Please remember to submit Evaluation Forms for programs funded by the University/Cultural Fund during the 2009-2010 year, within 2 weeks of your program. Eligibility for future funding is contingent upon receipt of Evaluation Forms.  Thoroughness and thoughtfulness of evaluation forms will also help determine future funding decisions.  Email vcw@duke.edu if you have any questions.

The University Fund

The University Fund is available to student organizations to support programming that benefits undergraduate students and their Duke experience. The University Fund is derived from  support by the Vice President of Student Affairs and the William and Carol Griffith Endowment.

The Cultural Fund

The Cultural Fund was established in 2001 by President Nannerl O. Keohane to support student groups with a rich history of cultural programming on campus. Groups typically receiving funding from this source are those with long-standing signature events that have contributed significantly to the development of a more inclusive campus environment and a deeper understanding of cultural diversity.

Eligibility

To apply, your must be an undergraduate organization that (1) has been formally recognized or chartered by the University and (2) has an assigned fund code or account issued by the Office of Student Activities (with prefixes 811 or 817).

To be considered for funding, events must address at least one of the following program categories:

  • Co-curricular education
  • Multiculturalism/diversity
  • Health and safety
  • Non-alcohol social activity
  • University/community service
  • Cross-cultural/collaborative (between at least two other student groups)

Funding Proposal

There are two calls for funding proposals: once in the Spring (April) and once in the Fall (November). We encourage student organizations to submit proposals for the ENTIRE UPCOMING YEAR during the Spring funding round.

Program Evaluation Forms

Program Evaluation Forms must be submitted within two weeks following the funded program. Future funding opportunities are contingent upon completion and submission of Program Evaluation Forms.

Other Funding Options

The University and Cultural Fund is just one of a wide range of funding programs available to student groups at Duke. For other opportunities, see the Student Leadership Development Program online guide to funding.
