This is our broadest area, involving the organizing of programs (Events, workshops, lectures, discussions, trips, displays, publications, etc.) that:
- Promote a richer understanding of the role race, gender, sexuality, and class has played, and plays, in our society.
- Attend to the needs of students of color at Duke (including African Americans, Asian Americans, Latino/as, and Native Americans, etc.) and their varied experiences.
- Encourage the formation of equitable and just communities respectful of differences.
Outreach and Recruitment:
This area involves developing and implementing a comprehensive plan for connecting with and being a resource for 1) underrepresented high school students visiting Duke on fieldtrips, during Blue Devil Days, or on recruitment weekends; 2) incoming freshmen, especially during Orientation and their first weeks of school; 3) parents of pre-frosh and matriculated students. This area can include, but is not limited to event planning, tabling, and developing print and web materials.
Communications:
The purpose of this area is to ensure that the Center is well represented through all avenues of communication, and that our multiple audiences are informed about the wonderful work that we do.
