Guide to Multicultural Opportunities at Duke
The Center for Multicultural Affairs Welcomes You
We encourage students, staff, and faculty to stop by the Multicultural Center. Swing by for casual conversation with staff. Utilize our lounge area for studying and socializing. Reserve the Center's resource room for events and meetings. We want to get to know each of you better.
Down to Earth: Making Community Connections
Oct.14 (Wed) || 5:30-7:00pm || Multicultural Center, Bryan Center lower level, West Campus: Down to Earth is a dinner series held on Wedensday evenings twice a month in the Multicultural Center, where students can learn from the diverse experiences and research of staff and faculty in a relaxed environment. Our third "Down to Earth" guest is Malinda Maynor Lowery, a UNC-CH Professor and film maker whose research concerns Native American identity and politics in the late 19th and 20th centuries in North Carolina.
Embrace: Women of Color Discussion Group
A space to form a community of women of color… in all our wonderful, complicated and sometimes frustrating diversity.
Embrace is an intimate gathering of students who are interested in exploring and challenging their understanding of themselves and other women of color, and who desire to find a language for oppositional experiences in their lives that stem from their gender and racial/ethnic identity(ies). Women who participate in this group are expected to be active participants, which entails consistently attending the weekly sessions and being engaged in shaping the learning and bonding experience.
